The Birch Note app only works with specially designed paper with dots printed around the border. You can download two types of paper below, horizontal ruled and blank. Each template includes a 10mm gutter so you can have the pages coil bound at your local printer. Alternatively you could also bind in a 3 ring binder.
Printing Notes and Possible Issues
It is recommended that the above PDFs be printed in their default size with no scaling on US letter size 8.5″x11″ in portrait mode. An example of these settings on OS X Mavericks is show below.
Some laser jet printers can produce semi-gloss results that will interfere with the Birch Note software. What happens when the dots are glossy is that they pick up highlights from the camera flash. These highlights interfere with the algorithm’s ability to detect the individual dots. An inkjet printer gives the most reliable results. Some laser jets print in matte and can work well.
